Another low-key weekend over here...which has pretty much been the norm for the entire month of January. It was COOOOOLD this weekend so I didn't feel like doing much more outside of curling up in front of the TV under a blanket with a fire going in the fireplace. But Gabby has dance first thing on Saturday morning, so like it or not, we got out in the 27 degree weather bright and early.
After Gabby's class, I went to the gym and did some crazy booty shaking in my first Zumba class! I almost didn't go...wasn't sure if I would like it, if it would be a good workout, if it would be hokey...but it was SUCH a blast! Prior to going I had asked on Facebook if anyone had done Zumba and what they thought, and a whole bunch of my friends from Drill Team commented that they had done the class and loved it. I just knew if all these girls liked it that I would too...so I went...and they were right, I had an AWESOME time. I think I am already hooked; I can't WAIT to go back next week! And it WAS a good workout; I was sweating like crazy at the end of class (actually, I was sweating like crazy about 10 minutes into the class). And today I am sore in all sorts of weird places...the moves we did in class are not things you do in everyday life, or even during everyday workouts. I was on a post-Zumba high for most of the day yesterday. I not only felt great from the workout, but I was just so excited to have found something new that is so much fun.
Good thing I banked some calories at Zumba because I went and spent all I had (plus some) that night when we went out for Thai food. I just love Mango Thai...cute little restaurant...and we hadn't been in ages. We ordered all kinds of things, and Gabby tried lots of new foods. We got a sampler platter, so Gabby tried spring rolls and shrimp rolls, crab cakes, chicken satay, dumplings, and various tempura items. She is on a shrimp-kick lately. I ordered Pad Thai with shrimp, and Gabby ate all of the shrimps off of my dish (and oddly, rejected the noodles). She wasn't really into David's beef dish, but she WAS excited about sticky rice for dessert. After we ordered it, every time a server came by for a reason OTHER than to bring our dessert (like to refill our glasses), Gabby would ask, "hey, where's the sticky rice??" She was very anxious. Once the dessert arrived, she did indeed like the sticky rice, but she was mostly into the thin slices of mango that came with it. I don't think this was her first time to eat mango, but I don't remember her loving it quite this much. We all left the restaurant full and happy.
This morning we were greeted in bed at 7:42 with a bright eyed, bushy tailed little girl who came to tell us it was morning time. So much for Gabby staying in her room in the morning! Thank goodness she still sleeps relatively late, so even if she continues to come wake us up, it won't likely be before 7:00.
Gabby's new weekend habit is to wear her favorite "at-home" clothes. She has strong preferences about what she likes to wear, and she will regularly go change her clothes on her own if she would rather be wearing something with more pink or with more Hello Kitty than what she currently has on. We have been successful in getting her suitably dressed for leaving the house, but she knows that when we are hanging out at home, she has more freedom to pick her own clothes. She knows that certain items (those that are too old, too tight, wrong season, etc.) are not part of our suitable options for going out, but are OK to wear at home. Lately she is all about summer clothes...knit shorts, knit skirts, little t-shirts and tank tops, and of course, all of her Hello Kitty and Disney Princess items. Regardless of the weather outside, if we are at home, Gabby is likely wearing a little knit pink skirt, tank top, and pink rubber sandals from last summer.
Tomorrow evening is our first class for the new semester of Kindermusik, and will also be Gabby's first "official" class by herself. She had her "try out" for the big-kid class last December, and now it's the real deal. She has been so excited to start this new class, and has been less than pleased that after December's trial run that she had to finish out the semester in her original Mommy-and-Me class. We talked about the class a little bit tonight before going to bed and she showed a little bit of nervousness, so hopefully things will go well tomorrow.
