Lounge wear

Ever since Gabby has been old enough to point and grunt, she has had VERY strong opinions about her attire, and she has been very vocal about those opinions. This meant that getting dressed in the morning involved terrible battles.

Luckily we seem to have found a solution. Now we have "leaving the house" clothes, and we have "at home" clothes. Gabby is now much more willing to let me dress her in appropriate clothes when we go places, so long as she gets to wear her own picks for hanging out at home. And if we are just at home, not only can she wear mismatched clothes, but she can also wear clothes for the wrong season, or her old treasured items that don't really fit anymore that she can't bear to get rid of.

On Sundays, the one day when we aren't hustling out the door in the morning, she loves to wear pajamas all morning long. On weekdays, as soon as we walk in the door in the evenings, BOTH of us change out of our "leaving the house" clothes. I go to my room and change out of my work clothes, and Gabby runs straight to her room, slams the door behind her, and raids her dresser. She bounds out 5 minutes later (chuckling, of course) having changed her entire outfit all by herself (and often including shoes!). She tends to destroy her neat piles of folded clothes in her drawers, but she does actually do a good job of gathering the clothes she wore to daycare and putting them in the laundry basket.

"At home" wear varies from day to day, but it is always soft knits, it is often summery, and typically includes one more items that fall into the categories of Pink, Princesses, or Hello Kitty. Shoes are always either her plastic pink sandals we wore to the pool last summer, or an old pair of silver sandals from last year.

Here are just a few examples of Gabby's DIY outfits...

Exhibit A: Tank top, knit skirt, and plastic sandals...three of her regular faves.

Exhibit B: Hello Kitty shirt, and OLD pink leggings...they are 24 month and are teeny tiny. They fit her like pantyhose they are so clingy, but she loves them. Everytime I try to pack them up with her old clothes, they somehow find their way back into her drawer.

Exhibit C: another knit skirt/tank top outfit. This one has an additional item...her Hello Kitty scrunchie worn as a bracelet.

Exhibit D: yet ANOTHER knit skirt, and her favorite pink Hello Kitty sweater.

Exhibit E: ANOTHER knit skirt, and a too tiny knit top (it should fit like a tunic) from last summer. She also has on her silver sandals in this picture, but I accidentally chopped them off. She's also got on the HK scrunchie-bracelet, but Molly is covering it up.

And this I just thought was funny...Gabby wanted something (I don't remember what). I told her no, and she was just so heartbroken she had to bury her face in the dishtowel to cry. My poor little melodramatic faker...there were no tears in the dishtowel after 5 minutes of "sobbing".

Oh, Dana...I am just rolling!!! It is amazing to me how very different boys and girls are and how quickly the differences manifest themselves! I remember those days with my little sisters when they were young...there was one single skirt that Meredith wore EVERY DAY for years. Then there were the endless years of arguing with my mom over what I was going to wear. LOL!!

Colin pays absolutely no attention to what I am dressing him in. NONE. The only problem is that he would generally like to live in his pj's...but that is only about comfort and not style. LOL!! Oh, and I LOVE the last picture of Gabby!! So funny! Colin has pulled that exact same move, except he lays under the kitchen table. SO dramatic. ;-)

Oh that made me laugh about Meredith and the skirt...reminds me of old arguments we used to have about clothes when we were kids! Next time I see you remind me to tell you the story about Teri and the poncho!
